A New View - 2020

Wouldn't it be delightful if we woke up tomorrow morning with a new view of the world? I mean what if we were awakened to news that unity and harmony was breaking out all across our country and that it was having an impact around the world? What if "breaking news" reported that a pact had been signed by churches, businesses, clubs and organizations nationwide that would forever prevent people from being identified by terms like black, white, red, yellow and brown?

And then what if the government,
realizing the direction the people were going, outlawed the use of "race" on legal forms and government documents. Then what if you and I decided for our part that we were simply going to subscribe to all of that in our personal lives; no longer referring to people by their skin color but instead choosing to judge people by the content of their character.
These views of tomorrow may seem far-fetched in our imaginations today but amazingly, they are views that have been held by many who have gone before us.

It was our 16th President who said,
"Let us discard all this quibbling about this man and the other man—this race and that race and the other race being inferior... Let us discard all these things, and unite as one people throughout this land, until we shall once more stand up declaring that all men are created equal.”
Then we had Dr Martin Luther King who said,

"An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity."
Amazingly these men had a view that was different than they were experiencing at that time in their lives. They personified vision and issued a new view for the people of their era.
What if we sought a new view? What if the challenge for our country was no longer how "white" people treated "black" people or how much opportunity "red" and "brown" people were experiencing in our society. What if our new view sought the good for humankind, all humanity. What if skin color no longer determined our depth of love and we chose to love humans because we really believed and lived like everyone mattered to all of us.

2020 is here and we have an opportunity to create a better vision for those around us and most importantly for ourselves. What does your vision for 2020 look like? Do you see people awash in a sea of humanity? Do you see humans of one race living, loving and learning each other? That could be the new view. It's up to you. ERASE Race and go for UNITY!
